Threlkeld Named Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week
DAHLONEGA -- University of North Georgia (UNG) No. 2 men's golf senior Hughes Threlkeld has been named as the Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week after his record breaking performance last week.
In the final round of the UWF Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola Country Club in Pensacola, Fla. Threlkeld shot a 10-under par 62 to close out the event. He climbed 52 spots up the leaderboard in the final round to finish in 14th place in the event, marking his fourth top-15 finish this year.
His bogey-free 62 tied the UWF Argonaut Invitational 29-year tournament record, and was the first 10-under par score in the event in 11 years.
Threlkeld's round also broke the UNG individual 18-hole program record by two shots.
Within the Peach Belt Conference, no men's golfer has ever had a single round better than Threlkeld as his Tuesday performance also goes down as the lowest round in the history of the conference.
Threlkeld and the Nighthawks are now in preparation to host the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Championship at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. UNG is looking to become the first program since 2018 to win back-to-back conference titles. The 54-hole event takes place April 18-20.
The Nighthawk of the Week title sponsor is Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega, with each week's winner being treated to a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant. Located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East, Chick-fil-A loves to give back to the local area and is proud to be a community partner with UNG Athletics.
Beginning in the fall of 2014, the UNG athletic department began honoring one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is chosen each Sunday evening by an award selection committee made up of members of the UNG athletics administrative staff.
