North Georgia Men's Soccer Reveals 2024 Schedule
DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia men's soccer team has revealed its schedule for the 2024 season. This season will serve as the first season under newly promoted head coach Anel Lilic who's interim status was removed via promotion back in December of 2023.
Lilic and the Nighthawks will begin the season away from home on Sep. 5 in the 16th Annual Clayton State Laker Loch-In Classic with a 5 p.m. game against Francis Marion.
The season opener is followed by UNG's home opener at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park on Saturday, Sep. 7 at 5 p.m. as the Nighthawks take on Converse.
Two more non-conference matches, both of which are at home, round out the early season non-conference slate as UNG will face Young Harris and Lincoln Memorial during the home stand.
The Nighthawks' first Peach Belt Conference foe of the season is Lander on Sep. 18 at 7:30 p.m. That match is in Greenwood, S.C. as the Nighthawks embark on their PBC journey on the road. UNG is looking for revenge after facing Lander three times last season, losing two matches and drawing in another.
UNG's PBC home opener takes place on Saturday, Sep. 21 at 2 p.m. against Georgia Southwestern. Family Weekend will be celebrated as the Nighthawks take on the Hurricanes. UNG went 2-0-1 in three matches against GSW last season including a 2-1 win in the PBC Tournament quarterfinal.
On Wednesday, Oct. 2 the Nighthawks will welcome reigning PBC regular season and conference champion Clayton State to Dahlonega, Ga. The Lakers are ranked as the No. 16 team in the country by the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll after making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. The Nighthawks will travel to Morrow, Ga. to take on the Lakers a few weeks later on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
Senior Day and UNG's final PBC contest of the season will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. against Lander. The regular season then ends with two non-conference road matchups against Mount Olive and Georgia Gwinnett before the PBC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The Nighthawks won nine matches in 2023, their most since 2017. They'll look to improve on that number with a revamped roster and first-year head coach beginning in 2024.
