Knowles Named PBC Freshman of the Week
DAHLONEGA -- No. 8 University of North Georgia (UNG) softball freshman catcher Carleigh Knowles was announced as the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week via the league office on Monday.
Knowles shined this past weekend in the 2025 Mizuno Invitational. She started the event with a 3-for-3 performance that included two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in a 15-0 win over Lake Erie.
Against West Florida on Sunday, Knowles went 1-for-3 with an RBI double while manufacturing a run as she stole third base which forced an errant throw that allowed her to score as the Nighthawks made a comeback effort.
In total, Knowles went 4-for-9 (.444) with three doubles, five runs scored and three RBI in her first weekend of play in front of a home Nighthawk crowd in her career.
Knowles and UNG will take the field at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park again this upcoming weekend for the Gold City Classic. Four games in two days against Emmanuel and Emory & Henry are on the docket for the Nighthawks. The first game on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Emmanuel starts at 12 p.m.
