ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 11 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team resides in seventh place out of 17 teams after the opening day of the LMU Spring Kickoff at St. Johns Golf and Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla. on Monday.

Day one saw Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) No. 2 Wingate take the lead on the field with a six-over par showing in the first round. The Bulldogs lead the field by 14 shots as No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic is in second at 20-over. No. 23 Barry (21-over) and No. 18 Rogers State (29-over) follow the leaders in third and fourth respectively. Host Lincoln Memorial is in fifth place after posting a combined 608 (32-over) on Monday while Erskine is one spot ahead of UNG in sixth place with a 36-over scorecard.

The Nighthawks trail the Fleet by three shots after combining to go 39-over par over the first 36 holes on Monday. 

UNG's best performance of the day came from sophomore Abby Franks who led the Nighthawks in each of the first two rounds. 

The Roebuck, S.C. native carded a four-over 76 in the first round. A rough first eight holes with four bogeys and a double were met with a redemptive performance over the final 10 holes for Franks. Sitting at six-over on the tee at the par 5 ninth hole, Franks went to work to salvage the round.

She birdied the final hole of the front nine to make the turn on a high note. 

Franks then dropped in two more birdies on the back nine with just one bogey to finish with a 76.

In the second round, she improved on her opening score with a three-over 75. Her round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 4 14th hole as she holed out from the fairway. 

At seven-over after 36 holes, Franks sits in 17th place on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore leads her teammate junior Cora Mount by two shots as Mount sits in 20th place individually.

The junior transfer utilized four birdies in round one to finish with a six-over 78. Then in round two, Mount finished with back-to-back birdies on her final two holes to card a 75 and tie Franks for the best round of the day.

The Nighthawks will tee off tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 8:30 a.m. at the 5,918-yard, par-72 St. Johns GCC as they look to strike a comeback on the field.
