Beasley Named PBC Men's Tennis Player Of The Week

DAHLONEGA -- No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis freshman Lleyton Beasley has been named as the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Beasley clinched a 4-3 win for the Nighthawks in their home opener against Young Harris (YH) on Tuesday.

In the decisive #6 singles match, Beasley faced off against YH freshman Nills Vercruyssen. This was Beasley's second singles match of his career and Vercruyssen's first. The two newcomers dueled in a heated battle that saw Vercruyssen come out on top in the first set 7-5.

However, Beasley answered with a thrilling 7-5 victory of his own to force a decisive third set.

In the third set, Beasley simply dominated. He came away with a 6-0 victory to close the match at 4-3. Beasley's victory won the match at 4-3 for the Nighthawks and solidified a thrilling comeback after they trailed 3-1 earlier in the day. 

Beasley and UNG are back in action this week with a road test against Auburn Montgomery in Montgomery, Ala. on Friday, Feb. 14. First serve against the Warhawks takes place at 1 p.m.
