DAHLONEGA – The Peach Belt Conference announced its 2024 women's soccer Team of Academic Distinction Wednesday morning and eight members of the UNG program made the list.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference sports communications professionals oversee the program.

Junior defender Alexa Aronoff made an appearance on the Team of Academic Distinction list for the first time in her career Wednesday. Aronoff is a two-time winner PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar and was also previously awarded the DII Athletic Director's Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award. Aronoff finished with the highest grade point average on the team with a 3.96. 

Junior midfielder Alex Clark was named to the team for the first time in her academic career as well. Clark has now earned four different academic accolades in her time at UNG.

Also on the list for the first time was sophomore forward Chloe Diaz. The Commerce, Ga. native was a 2023-24 PBC Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar and now earns her second academic award with the 2024 Team of Academic Distinction.

Standout senior goalkeeper Sierra Fowler added to her impressive resume with her second career Team of Academic Distinction selection. Fowler has totaled seven academic awards in her distinguished career with the Nighthawks.

Sophomore midfielder Angie Garcia made her debut appearance on the team this season after finishing the year with a 3.5 GPA in Computer Science. the Lawrenceville, Ga. native has now earned two academic accolades from the PBC in her first two years with the Nighthawks.

Sophomore forward Grace McGill earned her first spot on the Team of Academic Distinction list after completing her second season in Dahlonega. The second year cadet and Cybersecurity student finished with a 3.95 GPA.

Senior defender Cat Watry also found herself on the team this year, marking her third appearance on the Team of Academic Distinction in her career. Watry has earned an impressive eight different academic awards now in her career.

Finally, junior midfielder Adleigh Wheeler rounded out UNG's selections on the team. This is the first appearance on the team for the Cumming, Ga. native who was a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar and D2ADA Academic Achievement Award recipient last year. 

The Nighthawk women's soccer program has now had multiple players be named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction (or all-academic team as it is formerly named) in 13 straight seasons, totaling 112 selections in that span.
